Hello there, I'm Katie Haythorn, and I'm delighted to welcome you into our world! Living in Southern California with my husband and our two adventurous boys, aged 7 and 9, life is a beautiful blend of exploration and growth.

Homeschooling in this picturesque region is a dream come true. With endless scenic wonders to discover, every day is an opportunity for adventure and learning. Gardening is our shared family passion, where the lessons of growth both in the soil and in life intertwine in fascinating ways.

My own journey echoes through the years. Growing up a homeschooler myself, amidst the vibrant wildlife of Southern Florida, climbing trees, and chasing after visiting tortoises, my childhood was an endless adventure.

Later on in my early adult life I moved and spent a decade in Colorado where I enjoyed the joys of hiking and embracing the great outdoors. Finally, I relocated here to California to be closer to family. I met my husband who is from Los Angeles and we began our family!

Despite my initial reservations, homeschooling became our unexpected path. After witnessing the struggles my son faced in public school, it felt like a natural choice to nurture their growth and curiosity at home. The transformation has been remarkable, watching them thrive, embrace learning, and revel in their creativity, just like I did in my own homeschooling years.

But it wasn't just about our family. The challenges of finding like-minded friends in the parenting world sparked the idea for Modern Parents Society (MPS). Born from a desire to create a supportive community, MPS aims to connect homeschoolers, unschoolers, and world-traveling schoolers worldwide. It's more than just a local meet-up; it's a global network of shared experiences, resources, and innovation.
